Dr. Michael Imberman brings over four decades of experience in periodontics, oral biology, and implant dentistry, combining a distinguished academic background with clinical innovation.
Dr. Imberman began his academic journey at Queens College of the City University of New York, where he excelled in chemistry. He went on to graduate with honors from the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 1978, receiving recognition for his exceptional performance in undergraduate periodontics. His passion for the field earned him a full scholarship to pursue specialty training at the Boston University Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry.
Blending his deep interest in periodontics and biochemistry, Dr. Imberman pursued advanced research through a fellowship with the National Institutes of Health at the Boston University School of Medicine, where he studied the biochemistry of connective tissue. He then completed a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Periodontics and earned a Master of Science in Oral Biology from Boston University in 1982.
In 1983, Dr. Imberman became the youngest appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Dentistry, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the school’s curriculum. He was a trailblazer in dental implantology, founding USC’s first dental implant programin 1985. He also led the development of several interdisciplinary teaching models, encouraging collaboration across dental specialties for the treatment of complex cases.
As a full-time faculty member in periodontics at USC, Dr. Imberman taught thousands of students, eventually chairing the school’s ethics committee. Over the course of his academic career, he has trained more than 2,000 dentists, 500 dental hygienists, and 100 periodontal specialists.
Today, Dr. Imberman continues his commitment to clinical excellence in full-time private practice. He has combined his surgical expertise with his background in connective tissue biology to pioneer advanced methods in AlloDerm graftingand gingival tissue regeneration, furthering innovation in periodontal and implant surgery.
